Method
- Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).
- In a large skillet over medium heat, heat 1 tablespoon oil. Add diced onion and cook for 2-3 minutes until softened. Add garlic and cook for another 30 seconds.
- Add ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it up as it cooks, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- Stir in cream of mushroom soup, milk, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix until fully combined and mixture is heated through. Remove from heat.
- Transfer beef mixture to a 9x13 inch baking dish and spread evenly.
- Sprinkle half of the shredded cheddar cheese (about 120 grams/1 cup) over the beef layer.
- Evenly arrange the frozen tater tots in a single layer over the cheese.
- Sprinkle remaining cheese on top of the tater tots.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, until cheese is melted and tater tots are golden and crispy.
- Let it cool for 5 minutes, then garnish with sliced green onions if desired. Serve hot.
Notes
You can swap ground beef for ground turkey or plant-based meat for a lighter option. Cream of chicken soup can be used instead of mushroom if preferred. Feel free to add a cup of frozen mixed vegetables in step 4 for extra nutrition. Leftovers keep well in the fridge for up to 3 days.
