Grilled Sweet Potatoes

This recipe for grilled sweet potatoes produces perfectly caramelized slices, smoky from the grill, and seasoned simply with olive oil, salt, pepper, and a hint of smoked paprika. They’re easy to make, a healthy side, and great for barbecues or weeknight dinners.

Ingredients
  

  • 800 g sweet potatoes About 4 medium sweet potatoes.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika

Equipment

  • 1 Grill charcoal or gas
  • 1 Grill tongs
  • 1 Large bowl
  • 1 Sharp knife
  • 1 Cutting board
  • 1 Vegetable peeler optional
  • 1 Basting brush

Method
 

  1. Preheat your grill to medium heat (about 400°F / 200°C).
  2. Peel the sweet potatoes if desired (you can leave the skin on if you prefer). Cut each sweet potato into 1 cm thick rounds.
  3. Place the sweet potato slices in a large bowl. Drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle with salt, black pepper, and smoked paprika. Toss well to evenly coat.
  4. Place the sweet potato rounds in a single layer on the hot grill. Cover and grill for 8 minutes.
  5. Use tongs to flip the sweet potatoes. Grill the other side for another 7-8 minutes until tender and lightly charred.
  6. Remove from the grill and serve immediately.

Notes

Try garnishing with fresh chopped parsley or a squeeze of lime juice for extra flavor.
For a spicy kick, add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the seasoning mix.
Grilled sweet potatoes pair well with grilled meats and salads.
Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days; reheat on the grill or in a skillet for best texture.
