Ingredients

  • 2 teaspoons matcha powder
  • 4 teaspoons hot water Not boiling, about 80°C/176°F.
  • 2 cups milk Dairy or plant-based.
  • 2 teaspoons honey or maple syrup Optional.

Equipment

  • 1 small saucepan
  • 1 whisk preferably a bamboo matcha whisk or small regular whisk
  • 1 measuring spoons
  • 2 mug or latte cup

Method

  1. Sift the matcha powder into a medium bowl to remove any lumps, ensuring a smooth latte.
  2. Add hot water (not boiling) to the matcha powder and whisk vigorously in a zigzag motion until the matcha has dissolved and a light froth forms on top.
  3. Heat the milk in a saucepan over medium heat until steaming but not boiling. Optionally, froth the milk for extra creaminess if you have a frother.
  4. Divide the whisked matcha evenly into two cups.
  5. Sweeten the steamed milk with honey or maple syrup if desired, then pour the milk into each cup over the matcha.
  6. Stir gently to combine and enjoy immediately.

Notes

You can use any plant-based milk (almond, oat, soy) for a dairy-free version.
For iced matcha, follow the same steps and pour the latte over ice.
Adjust sweetness by adding more or less honey/maple syrup as per your taste.
